Introduction

Room division plays a crucial role in the entire functional process of hotel management. This is the first department with which guests come in contact with. This department contributes to the entire revenue and profit of the hotel. There are several services and aspects related to room divisions in the context of a hotel. These aspects are discussed in detail in this study.

Task 1: Services offered by the rooms divisions

1.1 Front Office & Accommodation Services for Diverse Organizations

Front Office is one of the sub departments within the rooms division. It generates the most revenue and is at the heart of the hotel. Front Office is a department that has the greatest amount of contacts with guest. It is highly people oriented and is a noticeable department. Room divisions department is comprised of two major services, namely housekeeping and front desk (Breiter & Dements, 1996, P. 58).

1.2 Roles & Responsibilities of a range of reception & accommodation services

Front Desk Manager

The front desk manager or front office supervisor supervises all the operations related to the front office for the hotel. He is also the staff manager. He schedules workers in order to make sure that appropriate coverage is provided to the guests of the hotel at all times. He also puts into practice the procedures and the policies which are administred by the hotel management.

Reservations

The reservation and the reception employees of the front office of a hotel interact with the guests that arrive at the hotel the most. The clerks that are present for reservation hold communication with the guests through the internet and the telephone. They schedule their stays and document the special requirements that they may be having.

Reception

As guests arrive in the hotel, clerks who are present at the front desk check them in. They enter their names in the registers. They assign to them the rooms that are required by them. Additionally, they answer the basic requests or questions the guest might be having throughout their stay.

Porter Service

A hotel porter or bellhop greets the guests as they check in. The porter carries the luggage of the guests as they show them the room. The porter checks the equipment of the room, making sure that everything in the room is properly working and is in the right order. He checks features like ventilation and lighting.

Concierge

The concierge professional at the front office of a hotel who makes the coordination of travel, entertainments and other activities for guests. If the guests have a question at any time, such as questions regarding the way to the places they want to visit, concierge finds out the answer for the guests as early as he can. Additionally, he makes reservations for restaurants. He also orders service for car and might even amake arrangements for personal shoppings for guests.
