Question 1

The "traditional" functions of men and women were established to double-check the power of the head of household. Historically talking, that head of house was male. We have been socialized to anticipate men to be audacious, industrious and domineering. Women have been anticipated to be submissive, timid and nurturing. Because the usual male qualities were considered to be the better springboard for sound decision making, men became the power in the family. Women were left to lament their fates. I accept as factual that we should closely investigate these customary roles and redistribute power in the equitable way.

So, men are the hunters and women the gatherers? That sounds right to me. My husband hunts constantly. He hunts for his misplaced glasses, his vehicle keys and the twisted cord bill. He hunts for the dry cleansing acknowledgement, his windshield scraper and the elusive beer at the back of the fridge. I gather. I accumulate all day. I accumulate the laundry and the empty coffee cups. I choose up the sneakers discarded by the back doorway, the dog toys under the couch and the basketball left at the end of the driveway. My accumulating is not restricted to the home. I must accumulate nutritious nourishment for my family at the supermarket but not before I have accumulated the coupons and the special requests! I must not overlook to accumulate my young children from after school activities and classes. I can assure you that this is all very levying to my conventionally submissive nature. Mercifully, annals instructs that the man will be the decision maker. This should assist brighten my customary burden the bit.
