Introduction

Hazel Winifred Johnson-Brown is a renowned personality in the field of nursing. She is famous as a leader and is also associated as the educator. She has been associated with the US army for most part of her nursing career. She was also awarded as the first female US Army general in the history. The black lady was also the first chief of the Army Nurse Corps. She was very passionate for serving humanity and this is what she carried since her childhood when she was only 12 years old. She always wanted to adopt nursing as profession (McDonald, 2001).

Throughout her life she faced discrimination because of her color as she was tabbed as black, but this could not take her into detrimental state and she stood firmly with her mission and passion. Nothing could stop her to become a shining star in the field of nursing. She also stood ahead of her counter parts and gained the highest qualification in her profession for which she always wished for. This profession was her passion and she always wanted to remain associated with it.

This paper discusses and highlights the woman contributor in the field of nursing and emphasis on her philosophies and the leadership traits she was gifted with. She was a legend for the future nurses and also for the entire nursing profession, as her contributions and services will always be remembered in golden words. Her services had wide contributions in taking this profession far ahead during her lifetime and even after she left (Klakovich, 2009).

Hazel Johnson-Brown has marked her contributions is a variety of ways for the field of nursing. She was a true picture of sacrifices, struggling throughout her life and fighting for the noble causes to achieve something. She will always be marked as an ever green example not only for the nurses but for the entire mankind. People from vast variety of professions recognize her because of her services and sacrifices she gave. Her bravery and courage was to stand against all the opponents and prove her identity. This led that the black women should not be discriminated just on the basis of color, as they demand equal opportunities and treatment not only in the field of nursing but in all the professions where women are treated as a valuable asset (CHHS, 2013).

She escorted the US army towards a revolutionary path particularly in the field of nursing, she stressed on the importance of evidence based practice and the value of sympathy and consideration for the patients. She was a kind hearted woman never compromising on quality of the services and patient care.
