Abstract

The War against terrorism has engulfed the entire world into a state of depression and destruction. Since the bombing of the World Trade Centre in 2001, the US declared war against the extremist group, Al-Qaeda. Over the last decade, the US Army has curbed terrorist activity in the entire world and helped reduce global terrorism considerably. This research discusses how the anti-terrorism movement by the West has in fact plunged the world into a further state of deterioration and rejects the hypothesis that the War on Terror has promoted world peace.

Introduction

Anti-terrorism is a concept that comes from the study of terrorism and the measures that may be taken to protect society from acts of fear. According to the military, terrorism is more than just an act to spread fear. It is an act that is well-organized, planned and executed by non-state groups in order to promote an ideology. Anti-terrorism incorporates all the measures taken by the law enforcement bodies of a country to prevent such attacks and acts.

Although the concern to subdue terrorism has been on the agenda since the meeting of the League of Nations in 1934, the concept of anti-terrorism mainly came into existence after the attack on the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001. With the destruction of the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, Osama Bin Laden stepped forward as the person responsible and claimed that Al-Qaeda had caused the attack. This was a turning point in history and ever since, the West has constantly been on war with the Al-Qaeda.

War on Terror was a phrase first expressed by George Bush, the US president. It was supposed to denote a military, political, global and ideological struggle against groups and organizations who were trying to cause havoc and mayhem in the world. The president claimed that the War on Terror would not just be limited to the Al-Qaeda and it would not stop until every terrorist organization was eradicated and world peace was achieved.

Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and in its scale and intensity of his inhumanity and brutality has become today one of the most acute and urgent problems of global significance.

All sorts of terrorism entail loss of life, destroyed all the spiritual, physical, cultural values, which are impossible to recreate centuries. Terrorist attacks have led the authorities and people to create counter-terrorist organizations and departments. For many people, terrorism becomes a way of solving problems such as political, religious, ethnic. Terrorism is by its nature refers to such methods of deprivation of human life, whose victims are most often the innocent people who have no relation to the conflict erupted.
