Role of Stressors, Coping Characteristics, and Perceived Barriers on Actual and Potential Student Health-Related Practices: Implications for Quality of Life

Problem Statement

The main problem for carrying out this research work revolves around identifying the prevalence of stress and sources of stress, prevalence of stress which is related to morbidity and mortality in the United States, Coping Mechanisms as natural reaction to stress-brief, Positive and negative coping and the contribution of negative coping to burden of illness in the United States. Furthermore, it also takes into consideration the extent to which stress differentially impacts minorities, females, lower SES, lower social support Stress's impact on decision making capacity, extent to which stress prompts negative coping unhealthy behaviors in young adults and the extent to which these negative coping mechanisms have the potential to become lifelong habits that can set young people up for morbidity in adulthood.

Health is seen as a characteristic of the individual, covering both his/her inner world, and all the uniqueness of the relationship with the environment and includes physical, mental, social and spiritual aspects, as a state of equilibrium, a balance between the rights and the ability to adapt the ever-changing environmental conditions. It has significantly observed that the sources of stress among students have direct prevalence with stress that is being experienced in the modern world (Colin & Liselotte , 2009). It has been observed that there are various reasons according to which students experience stress. Some of the most significant reasons include the hectic schedule of education, the pressure of handling different relationships, and lack of proper nutrition. It is very important for students to understand and learn proper organization of routine activities and coping with the pressure of day to day activities (Cohen, 1984).

Stress differently impacts the health of students is an urgent problem and a subject of primary importance, as it determines the future of the country, the gene pool of the nation, scientific and economic potential of society. It has been observed to a great extent that stress also causes morbidity and mortality in individuals. The morbidity rate and mortality rate in the United States have increased due to the stress experienced by individuals due to different reasons (Glanz, 2002). It is no secret that education is associated with the loss of health in one way or another. But, the schedule and routine activities of students become a source of stress for students that also lead to an increase in the morbidity rate and mortality rate ion the students of the United States. Thus, the formation of appropriate skills in order to prevent self-development of stress, prevention of anxiety and mental stress is one of the most important areas in preserving and promoting the health of students (Lazarus, 1977).

It is also obvious that there are various risk factors that are associated with the influence of ...
