Role of Fate in Iliad

How is fate presented in the Iliad, and what role does it play in the characters' lives and their understanding of their lives? How does it affect the atmosphere of the epic itself?

Introduction

In the English literature, there are much incidence as they authors have given the reason of fate that prevails in human life. There was a conflict of God among the mortal Greeks and Trojans in the Iliad. There are very negative effects of the outcome of war among humans. The Iliad has accepted his destinies by the struggle of questioning the fate and fighting with the fate he has to achieve his goals of life. The homer's idea was different to the concept of modern time fate. His concept of fate was traditional as the concept deals with the dealing with fate in war situations and treatment of fate by Gods is depicted in this epic (Slattery, 2013).

In this epic, it was depicted that fate is Zeus and human does not trust fate, it is mortal, and it is controlled by forces beyond the god. There are boundaries on every ones life and God had controlled the fate in the life of human beings. The fate is distinctly presented in the Iliad and the role and characters in this epic had presented a view of deterring their point of view regarding fate. They have a firm belief upon their concept of fate that they do not want to change it. The outcome of everyone's life is depicted by the destiny and fate has to follow up the plans of future the rest of things is depicted by the free will of human beings and they are sole responsible for the actions that prevail in the life of humans (Homer, 2006).

Discussion

The fate and destiny are in the hands of God it is beyond the human control but the immortal plan the fate and follow their rules to challenge the God and their destiny. The fate in this epic is fixed and in these epics depicts that it is captured by God and no other person can rule the fate. Moreover, fate is not always being the same it is changeable and Zeus fate will be changeable according to the wish of God as His power rules the world (Homer; the Iliad). This epic depicts that Zeus has power, and he rules the world but the truth is that Greek had failed to capture troy and nine years have been passing it depicts that fate is not in favor of Zeus to destroy troy.
