CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
This chapter of the study will provide a short introduction to the research the researcher intent to conduct. Introduction of the research will include a brief overview of the research topic, will provide the research aim and objectives and next the research questions. Moreover, the researcher will provide some previous researches that indicate the significance of this study.
Background of the Research Study
An enormous effect has been examined on how multinational corporations (MNCs) are organized due to increased globalization in the markets. Saner and Yin (2005) reflected that the MNCs face various local requirements and pressure as they increase their presence across boundaries and languages in multiple countries. Usually, the business that expand their operations and function on the international level encounter various multilateral agreements, national laws, and other international organization to execute their operations and functions in an organized manner. Kourula & Laasonen (2010) indicated for business to survive on the international level require the ability to manage complex interactions with non-governmental and governments organizations such as NGOs. Hillman et al (1999) elucidated that the governments usually in the case of international business have the power over the business opportunities which are very important for the survival of the MNCs. Schuler et al (2002) however, reflected that business that have access to these potential opportunities enjoy competitive advantage over other and hence maximize their profitability across languages and boundaries. In such complex business environment business diplomacy is of major importance in establishing a socially constructed system for business where there are values, norms, and beliefs proper or appropriate to business operations and function. Luo (2001) opined business diplomats' work as an instrument to negotiate, make compromises, renegotiate and at the same time try to be sensitive to increasing number of local and international NGOs demands. For contemporary international businesses, business diplomats' work continuously for the business to prevent conflicts of environmental standards, working conditions, employment practices that a business need to take into consideration to maintain its reputation internationally (Detomasi, 2007). In order to validate the role of diplomacy in international business it is indispensable to conduct this research.
