Introduction

This paper will present a discussion on the role of community care in the Western Society. The role of community care in the society refers to the services and advice provided by the local authority. There are some people who have difficulty in personal care and therefore, they require someone who can provide them with the care which they wanted. These people must consider the support provided by the community care department by doing the assessment of their needs.

In this paper, we will look on the ways through which the community care provides services in the western society, and will also identify the problems and difficulties which they face in providing those services to the society.

Discussion

The community care may vary from person to person as it depends on the specific needs of the person they are proving care for. On the other hand, there should be an assessment which must be provided to every person who comes to have the community care. This kind of assessment must provide people with the basic information and a plan of care. If there are any conflicts regarding the process of the assessment or the plan of care, there are certain ways in which the decisions can be made with mutual consent.

The aims and objectives of the community care policies is providing care to the individuals in their homes, instead of providing care in an institution or hospital setting. There are three main goals of the community care policy which are given below:

The prime goal is to restrict the community expenditure on the residential and nursing home care. For this, local authorities have to be responsible to operate a limited cash system.

There is an agenda for establishing a mixed economy of care; such as, a number of service providers.

The third goal is to define the boundaries among social and health care. Social care is the responsibility of the local authorities (Atkinson 2006, 90).

The community care is described as the features of a society which cares for its members and offers them different choices to make their lives better. This term stands for a concept or for a social movement, which is largely equal and partially unsupported coexistence of people within a specified geographic size (district or neighbourhood) which is seeking full participation in the society.

Through these communities, every person of the society is offered what the community has to offer them; whether they are schools, nurseries, cultural or recreational activities or residential and employment services. Hence, the theory of Community Care is characterised as the people feel valued and equated in their individuality despite their living conditions. Characteristic of community care is, therefore, the absence of segregation and special living environment for people with disabilities.
