Role of Biology in Psychology: For and Against Arguments

Introduction

Psychological research has many different perspectives. Biological perspective or role of biology is one of the major approaches used on the discipline of psychology. It emphasize on the ideas that psychological behaviors and attitudes have different biological causes i.e. also known as biopsychology and physiological psychology. It has strong connections with many different aspects of sciences that are particular to genetics and neurology. The effects of physical child abuse on projective adult actions, effects of injuries on head trauma, and criminal behavior for the explanation of genetics.

This assignment deals with brief discussion on the role of biology in psychology with its future implications. The purpose is to provide two arguments each in the support of and against the biological level of psychology.

Discussion

Biological psychology is a discipline that best explains the role of biology and its future direction in the field of psychology (Miller, 2010, pp. 716-743). It is the study to assess the significance of psychical and chemical factors in the mental process and behavioral values with the impact of mental processes. In other words, it integrates the study of biological factors that has great impact on the influence of psychological phenomena.

Biological perspective can be considered as one of the school of thoughts in the discipline of psychology. Cognitive psychology and humanism are other methods used in this aspect that emphasizes on the desires and mental state of individuals rather than creating analogies from the biological causes of behavior.
