Introduction

The given case study has highlighted various issues pertaining to the given situation and her two children that a social worker must look into and come with a set of recommendations and actions. Role development is referred to accumulation of attitudes, intolerance and tradition, of a group. A social worker is liable for representing the needs of deprived and those who are given low priority and work to attain social justice for the affected individual. Human beings throughout their life have been going through certain set of sufferings and experiences that could be either inherited or result of social and global consequences. A social worker is responsible for dealing with the discriminatory and oppressive behaviours or experiences of social service users.

Self Awareness and Interpersonal Skills

As a social worker, the very first agenda comes into play is to deal with the issue effectively and particularly the subject. The success in this regard could be achieved by expressing sympathy and empathy with the subject in order to maintain a optimistic bond. In this regard interpersonal skills play a vital role from the end of social workers and associated teams. It involves a sense of connectivity, attachment and collective alliance between two or more parties. The level of interpersonal bond depends upon the varying degree of involvement and familiarity based on the similar grounds. However, this issue require a formal and professional set of interpersonal skills to be practiced in order to get into the gist of the problem.

The success of interpersonal skills is dependent upon degree of self awareness. It is considered as the very first step to the improvisation of the process. The behaviours and reactions of social workers and subject come out naturally while dealing with an issue or reacting to a problem. It involves exploration of one self's true identity and considered as key to become a successful social worker. Social worker or counsellor is highly required to think and feel from the patient or subject's perspective in order to understand and assess the criticality of the situation. It could be only achieved by high level of self awareness i.e. a person know himself or herself clearly in order to understand someone else's feelings. Self awareness could be accomplished by various techniques like relaxation of muscles, biofeedback, compassion training, etc. (Zastrow, C., 2009, p. 59).

As per Biestek's social theory, a social worker must treat his client as an individual, express and share feeling purposefully to form a bond with client in order to gain knowledge of issue, make use of controlled and emotional engagement with client, gain acceptance form client, do not be judgemental, make appropriate choices and decisions and keep all information of client personal. A social worker can deal with the issue either considering the problem as a result of social structure or personal issues.
