Robert Schumann's music aesthetics

Introduction

Robert Schumann also known as Robert Alexander Schumann was born in Zwickau in Saxony, on the 8th of June 1810, and he died on July 29th 1856 in Endenich near Bonn, Germany, he was a general composer, aesthete leading music critic. He was one of the most delegate composers of the romantic era, when he was in school he had a keen interest in the literature and music, he also sacrificed his study for the sake of music, he was doing the study of law but he left the study because he loves the music so he returned to the music world. He planned to continue his career as a virtuoso pianist, his teacher named Friedrich Wieck told him that he can be a good pianist in Europe, but a hand injury caused by a device brought the career of the most promising artist to an end, after that Schumann focused his musical power on composing (Scholes ,115).

Schumann until 1840 has published compositions which were exclusively written for the orchestra and piano. Schumann mainly use to compose romantic songs he has also started to work on composing large concerts and he has been well known for his piano concerto work. His work includes four symphonies, songs for voice and piano (lieder), an opera choral, orchestral and chamber works. His writing about the music was usually used to appear in Neue Zeitschrift fur Musik it is a new journal for music. He got married with the pianist Clara Wieck in 1840; Clara Wieck also used to compose music and has a very good performing career.

After an attempted suicide the last two years of his life he spent in a mental institution, on his own request. Schumann at the age of 14, he wrote an essay on the aesthetics of music and has also contributed it to a volume titled Portraits of Famous men which has been edited by his own father. While he was still in school he also read the work of different philosopher includes, Byron, Friesrich Schiller, Greek tragedian and Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Jean Paul was his influential literary inspiration, he was a German writer and his influence can be seen in the novels of Schumann. Schumann has composed about one hundred and fifty songs, he has been known as one of the experienced artist of his times, and people use to admire him for his work. He has also worked art, philosophy and literature, though he also had a great interest in the literature since his childhood.

He has published composition which were mainly written for the piano, apart from this he have also composed a wide variety of genre. In the music world Schumann was much inspired by the performance of Ignaz Moscheles he saw him when he was playing at Karlsbad. Schumann father died in 1826; when Schumann was only sixteen years old.
