Introduction

During the 20th century, the Koreans yearned for the establishment of an independent and unified Korea. Before World War II, Japan's annexed the Korean Peninsula, after its defeat efforts for a unified Korea were made, but those too were soon dashed by the partition on North Korea and South Korea. However, instead of reunification Korea's division became permanent.
