Amnesia is referred as the state in which memory (either saved memories or the practice of saving something to memory) is lost or disturbed. As compared to normal absent mindedness and daily forgetting, the memory loss occurs to a large extent in amnesia. The amnesia may occur either from neurological or organic causes (injury to the brain through neurological diseases, physical injury or utilization of specific drugs). It may also occur due to psychogenic or functional causes (psychosomatic factors including post traumatic stress, mental disorder or psychological resistance mechanisms) (Whitaker, 2010).
