Retaining Patients

Introduction

Patients are the source of revenue in the clinic and they are the only source of income for the practitioners. The clinic should give immense satisfaction to the patients so that they may stick to the doctor, and do not change their clinic. The paper discusses the reasons why the patients are leaving and they are not getting their services from the clinic and it also identifies the reasons because of which the problem has occurred.

History

As evidenced in the years 2003 and 2004 the clinic was very successful overcoming economic plans of revenue and profits expected for this stage. In 2003, a substantial reduction in expected revenue and profit plan was accomplished in only 53.45% of planned. The year 2001 is the year of highest entry of patients into the clinic with a total 90 exceeding 2000 that had the greatest number of patients with 95 and which met on revenue and profit plans. However, in the year to move from the large influx of customers has not been planned until November meeting. This is largely due to decreased length of stay of patients in the clinic, which is between 80.5 days on average. In conducting the analysis of the stay and obtained the following result:

Length of Stay Number of patients

1 to 44 on 18

45 to 74 days 8

74 to 104 days 14

More than 105 days 12

In the year 2011, the clinic faced patients turn over and hence identified the problem.

High Cost

The health care costs doubled between 1996 and 2006 and is projected to increase to reach 25% of GDP in 2025 and 49% in 2082. It is estimated that the percentage of costs attributable to Medicare and Medicaid in the health system will rise from 4 percent of GDP in 2007 to 19 percent of GDP in 2082, becoming the first driver of increased federal spending in the coming decades. The health care costs add $ 1.525 to the price of every General Motors vehicle. The company spent $ 4.6 billion on health care in 2007 (Shi, Singh, 2010), more than the cost of steel. As a result of these crushing health care costs; American businesses are losing their ability to compete in the global market. The problem has already emerged in our society of increasing cost of health care moreover, the clinic patients has to face the higher cost so it has become the problem for the patients to pay for the healthcare. However, the recession has also increased the turnover rate of the patients from the clinic. They have started analysing for the inexpensive health care institution (Shi, Singh, 2010).
