These services are basically for the individuals who are not capable of doing on their own because of various social or economic issues (Brill & Levine, 2005). Human services cropped up from a concern for social issues that formed obstructions to people getting their requirements met. The objective of human services is to lend a hand to people in need with rising above obstacles or barriers in their lives that are stopping them from meeting their basic requirements like healthcare, food, and shelter. Human Service professionals are committed to assisting individuals in developing the right skills in order to become independent and self-reliant and be able to become a valuable constituent of the society (Brill & Levine, 2005).

History of Human Services

Since the beginning of the nineteenth century to the present, there has been an effective movement in the path of identifying the services and rights of individuals. Organizations have been established to support in the attention and care of populations for instance, the children, poor, developmentally disabled and mentally ill. These units were born into an always changing world where the primary focus is in forming a functional and manageable society. The 1935 Social Security Act was introduced by President Franklin D. Roosevelt which basically changed the role of federal government in offering human services. In order to provide guarantee of well-being for the unemployed people, be it elderly or disabled, the Social Security Administration carries on to offer financial support for eligible individuals in anticipations of helping out with the preservation of contributing the people of society (Woodside & McClam, 2011).
