Nursing is a process of caring for the healthy, sick, elderly, young, families or individuals, in any and all environments, helping them deal with their illness and resulting stress or distress. Nurses spend most of their time beside patients, and through effective communication with their patients and their families can play a vital role in discerning their beliefs, values and wishes with regard to the ethical conclusions (Aiken.et.al, 2002, pp.1988) (Carayon, 200, pp.461). The purpose of nursing is not to treat any specific aspect of a person or his/her pathological condition, but to look after the individual as a whole (Royal College of Nursing, 2003). The basic and underlying goal, and aim of nursing is to encourage and endorse health and healing, be it therapeutic or medicinal, and prevent disease, illness and disability. In this aspect it can be said that a nurse is not so different from any counselor, as making people understand and cope with their disease or disability and putting them at ease is one of the key facets of nursing as a profession. If death is imminent in a patient's case, a nurse's job would be to make patient as comfortable as possible for the duration of the patient's life including providing physical, psychological and even spiritual help as needed (Ewens, 2008).
It is believed that sometimes nursing care is more essential and helpful to the patient than a major operation performed. Sometimes, all it takes is constant attention, endless patience and true caring for the patient to feel secure and safe leading to faster recuperation and positive results. In comparison, individuals of United States are receiving much attention in the perspective of health care as compared to Canada or other countries. The people, who interviewed through telephonic conversation, commented that, they were satisfied with the medical facilities as high or low.
Though, there are similar issues in Canada and, America due to consequences of workload but, in United States the problem is still the same with the rapid increase of diseases and, healthcare problems. 17% and about 21% of the women in Canada are not receiving proper treatment. Death rates due to cervical Cancer is more in Canada than in United States. It has been found that, individuals are not enjoying medical facilities in Canada as compared to United States (Ewens, 2008). The heavy work load is considered as the major problem in the United States and, nurses are always experiencing heavy workloads than previous due to several reasons such as; increase in the demand for nursing practitioners, improper supply of nurses to several urban and rural areas, reduction of nursing staff and, shorter span of patient's stay in hospitals.
