Abstract

Child neglect and the inability of parents to ensure provision of all the possible facilities and benefits to the child is increasing becoming common across the globe, and it is due to the same reason that several studies and researches are being conducted on the subject. This research mainly deals with the causes as well as impacts of child research, that do not only play a major role in determining the overall behavior and attitude of the child but at the same time, it also defines the outlook of child towards the society, combined with his social as well as personal relationships. It is eminent to mention here that there are a large number of causes and effects of child neglect, and it is due to the same reason that on one hand, the issue has to be properly highlighted and considered by the parents as well as the social scientists and other experts. On the other hand, efforts should be made to provide proper training and information to parents, in order to make sure that all the chances and possibilities of getting indulged into child neglect are removed at the appropriate time. The current research would thus assist in uncovering the various processes leading to deterioration of the situation and thus leading to development of better and acceptable personal as well as societal relations. I am researching the causes of parental neglect to determine the origin of the neglect so that my readers will be able to ameliorate the negative effect of parental neglect on the developing child.

Background of the Problem

Child neglect could be defined as one of the basic forms of child maltreatment. The phenomenon could be divided into several forms and types, including the failure of the guardians and the concerned individuals to fulfill the basic needs of the child (McDermott, 2013). It is eminent to mention here that concept includes failure to ensure the provision of basic health facilities, combined with effective supervision and the emotional, as well as nutrition needs and demands. The provision of proper education and secure housing is also included in the responsibilities of the parents and the guardians, and the failure to ensure their provision is included category of child neglect (Young, Lennie & Minnis, 2011). It has been observed that there are certain characteristics and traits linked to the behavior of parents towards the child, with the perception of behavior and attitude varying from one society to the other (Guterman, Lee, Taylor & Rathouz, 2009).
