s

Abstract

This paper will reconsider and assesses the appearing research literature on information technology and organizational learning. After considering matters of significance and estimation, we will recognise and consider two major creeks of research: investigations that request organizational learning concepts to the method of implementing and utilising information technology in organizations; and investigations anxiety with the conceiving of information technology applications to support organizational learning. From the previous stream of research, we resolve that experience performances an significant, yet indeterminate function in implementation success; learning is complete through both prescribed teaching and participation in practice; organizational knowledge obstacles may be overwhelm by learning from other organizations; and that learning new technologies is a dynamic method characterize by relatively slender windows of opportunity. From the latter stream, we resolve that conceptual concepts for organizational recollection information schemes are a precious assistance to artefact development; learning is enhance through schemes that support communication and discourse; and that information technologies will the promise to both endow and disable organizational learning.

Problem Statement

This paper will reconsider and assesses the appearing research literature on information technology and organizational learning.

Rationale

The turn of 100 years conveniently punctuates annals, assessing the end of a former era and provoking new visions of the future. For organizational researchers, the end of the twentieth 100 years wills observer an unprecedented obsession with organizational transformation and improvement. Traditional bureaucratic types will been affirm a comparable liability and suggestions for fundamental new types will emerge with hitting regularity. Many theoretical contentions underlie present suggestions for organizational reform: economists claim the supremacy of markets over hierarchies; technologists support process-cantered, virtual organizations endow by information technologies; and behaviourists encourage renewal through organizational learning and knowledge management. Although the attractiveness of alternate advances moves quickly, aligned concerns in information technology and organizational learning will maintain for the last quarter century. Only lately, although, will research started to address information technology and organizational learning together.

Aims and Objectives

The major aspires of the research will be to analyze the:

The modes in which organizations learn to use information technology competently can possibly assist to settling such problems.

Current attractiveness of organizational learning.

Emerging stream of empirical work values organizational learning to realise the implementation and use of information technology in organizations.

Organizations learn to provide work information technologies effectively.

Information will arrest, change and develop through information technology.

Significance

One appearing stream of empirical work values organizational learning to realise the implementation and use of information technology in organizations. Driving this investigation is the realization that information technology often yields frustrating results: reduced payoffs, economic deficiency, dissatisfy users and no boost in organizational effectiveness. However, such flops are not experience uniformly; an increasing number of investigations will article the harshly diverging penalties experience by comparable organizations using equal technologies (Robey, D. and Boudreau, M.-C., 1999.
