Research Paradigm: Nursing

Introduction

This paper will elucidate upon the notion of research paradigms. There are considerably three basic research paradigms, which includes, quantitative, qualitative and action research. Being a medical professional and having expertise in nursing, I am supposed to select three different research scenarios, as per each paradigm of research, and further expand them according to the scenario. This paper will firstly elucidate upon my professional setting, than in-depth analysis of each research question is discussed.

Description of the Professional Setting

Nursing as a modern profession, began in United States in 1896 with the creation of the School of Nursing, thanks to the initiative of the American Nursing Association (ANA). It was up to some American nurses planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of the undergraduate course, based on the model Florence Nightingale, and therefore of scientific (Smith, L., et al, 2009). This fact characterized as ANA standard for opening of other nursing programs in the country Curriculum Course graduation ANA offers students the opportunity to actively participate in their training, making it thus an agent of Auto-learning. Already from the 1st period curriculum, it participates Interdepartmental Program Curriculum (PCIs), a process of integration of disciplines, from theory to practice and study to work. Develops experience in fields of practice, level of increasing complexity, i.e (Smith, L., et al. 2009)., begins by attending customer groups reportedly healthy until the health problems of greater complexity and, to the extent that it operates, acquires skills. These include:

Making simplified diagnosis of health situations of varied clientele, communities and Micro-Regions Health

Make contingency plans in the context of health.

Implement nursing care plans

Evaluate the actions performed

Thus, note - that my professional setting from the 1st period curriculum, to adopt a scientific methodology in customer assistance, whether ill or healthy, always seeking self-care (Smith, L., et al. 2009). At this time also begins preparation for research (Smith, L., et al, 2009). Worth mentioning that all nursing care is based on scientific principles derived from basic knowledge of biological, morphological, physiological, pathological, behavior and exact (Cleveland, A. M. 1994). My professional setting also includes the education regarding the cycle pre-professional and professional. It is essential in the pre-professional teaching of the basic disciplines, since it is through this teaching; the student acquires basic knowledge to act later as a professional in the health field.

Qualitative Research

State an appropriate research question and/or hypothesis.

This research paper is designed to elucidate the notion of visitation in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) that whether it is appropriate for the patient to interact with its family and relative freely, or it might cause harmful effect on the health of the patient (Cleveland, A. M. 1994). This aspect could be considered from both aspects, as harm or as a relief for the patient; however, to understand its complexity a qualitative research is designed to enlighten this argument under the light of authentic data that is need to be extracted from the audience (Smith, L., et al. 2009).
