Introduction

Indigenous people in Canada have been a victim of lower socioeconomic status and have confronted social and political issues from the time of colonization. One major challenge that they had to face between the eras of 1892 to 1969 was residential school system that was an initiative taken on the government level to assimilate indigenous people and their traditions. These schools were open to convert the minorities into Christians and promote western values and culture amongst indigenous communities.
