Introduction

Strategic management tends to inculcate various notions into its fold, and is rendered as the basis on which the decisions will be taken by the top management in order to align the achievements of the company as per the vision of the organization. In the context of this study, the aspect which will be pondered upon is Mergers and Acquisition. The need of the merger and acquisition arises based on expanding the market or expanding the consumer base. It can also be due to the declining financial stability of the one company. The case which will be taken into consideration will be of Kraft Foods and Cadbury. Kraft Foods took over Cadbury backed by the intention of expanding its business or the consumer base in the emerging markets or in the areas where Cadbury enjoyed a good market presence. An example in this regard could be that of India, where Cadbury enjoys a good market presence. However, in order to understand the deal between two companies it is Important to decipher the modus operandi of the mergers and acquisitions along with the need of such an act by Kraft Foods and Cadbury. Moreover, it is also important to understand the intention behind such a takeover. An alleged gracious takeover is often a euphemism for a merger.

Discussion

Significance of Research

The research is important because it will help both reader and researcher to decipher the challenges encountered by the management of Kraft Foods and Cadbury. More importantly it intends to throw light on the intention behind any merger or acquisition. In spite of the fact the strategic management is young discipline; it has revealed a striking expansion with respect to the size and the influence in last couple of years. Like other field of management, the finding that is obtained from the data from the research is as healthy as research method that has been used by the data. Although the achievement of this research is much high but it faces the current challenges which is well known in the field of identification for the specialized strategic manager in the particular specialized field. This research will help to identify the achievement in the field of research and also the challenges faced by the strategic manager with respect to Mergers and acquisition. In addition the research will describe the literature review of the different articles which determine the challenges that are faced by the strategic manager in the selection of the research methodologies for mergers and acquisition. In the end it will provide the recommendation that will help in the progression for the further research on Mergers and Acquisition.

Research Questions

In relation to the nature of the research problem under study, this research will attempt to answer the following questions:

What challenges did management of Cadbury encountered at the time of acquisition by Kraft Foods?

How did the strategies of two distinct organizations merged into a singular strategy for working towards achievement of a singular mission?
