Nominal

The nominal level of measurement describes categorical variables in nature that differ in quality rather than quantity. Given the observations that are made from reality, the researchers can assign each to a single category or group. Each group or category is labelled with a name or number of arbitrary shape that is it is labelled according to the wishes or convenience of the investigator. This level of measurement is only qualitative and variables are therefore qualitative (Rubin and Babbie, 2010).
