Research in Information Systems: An Empirical Study of Diversity in the Discipline and Its Journals - A critique
Introduction
Majority of populace consider the current time phase the “age of computing”. It is undeniable that progression in technology relating to the computing field, are leading the world in many new directions which are full of innovations and excitement. Research is the most important mode through which the computing field begins its advances. The study of computing is vast enough to explore, in order to better understand where the study has been going, researcher has break its study into most common academic sections : computer science, software engineering and information system. Organizations have become dependent on Information System not only to cater management needs but also to gain competitive edge over competitors. Many steps have been taken in developing several applications to support each and every phase of organization, in making relevant data & timely information available all over the organization. Moreover, caters the computing needs across all the departments in an organization. The discipline of Information system in academic and industry sector, seeks to create awareness by developing theory that generate and track the record of knowledge among the people who are new in the field of Information system.
Previously, researchers of Information system have taken for granted the viewpoint that rising IS discipline has references disciplines. The information system discipline has carried out an extensive self -inspection, mainly due to its apparent variety. The knowledge of information system is not on the edge of rising, but has completely risen as a study in its own right. (Baskerville, 2002)
Discussion
Purpose and Spectators
The purpose of this article is to enhance the understanding of variety in the research of Information system and the scope to which diversity in Information System is widespread across journals that publish its research. Authors have break down the diversity into five key features: (reference discipline, level of analysis, topic, research approach, and research method). It is an empirical study rather than normative. The findings of this article seem to be relevant for students at doctoral level and junior faculty. Certain findings of the study might surprise some experienced members of the Information System community.
Analysis
Analysis of information system consists of variety of activities which begins in the early phase of IS advancement. The focal ...
