Research Problem/Purpose The problem stated in the study, 'is the use of methods for the decontamination of hands after clinical methods'. In this study, the authors have emphasized upon the need to choose an appropriate method to clean hands after any medical processes. Te article focuses upon nursing students who were in the final year of studies, and also upon certified nurses who were practicing in clinical settings. It emphasis that the nurses, as well as the students have a number of approaches to decontaminate their hands; however they use only a few methods while disregarding the others. According to them, the nurses and nursing students undermined the importance of various decontamination methods; however, they were are effective in killings germs. This was because of the number of factors associated with the decision to choose a method to decontaminate hands.
The investigators have placed the study problem within the context of existing knowledge. They have emphasized upon the importance of good hygiene practices and avoidance of disease spread across various individuals. They have positioned their study around the decontamination practices after various clinical procedures. Thy have also highlighted the needs for decontamination of hands as discussed by the world health organization. Hence, the study is conducted the resolve the current issue of non-compliance to the guidelines and rules for the decontamination of hands by the nursing students and registered nurses. The purpose of this study was to record and confirm participants expressing their decision-making regarding hygiene of hands while working through clinical scenarios on a computer, to recognize what reasons they were considering in deciding a scheme for decontamination of hand and/or to make use of gloves.
Review of the Literature
The literature review in this study has identified some important concepts. It has identified the use of hand decontamination techniques as an important aspect for helping the prevention of infections. T has shed light upon the lack of concern shown by the nursing students and the nursing staff in making the optimum use of the hand decontamination methods available to them. It has also highlighted the gap that exists in applying these policies and lack of prior research for finding this gap. It has recognized that several attitudinal, social and cognitive factors are involved in the decision making of using a decontamination method, but the contribution that each of these factors has made to the decision making, yet remains to be explored. According to the literature review presented in the study, the decision making process use to choose the method for decontamination of has two stages. The first stages comprise of analysis of the risk associated with the spread of diseases imposed to the nursing students and practicing nurses themselves and the patients and other people they deal with. However, this may not be proper. The second stage comprises of knowing the place, process and reason of the hands being contaminated leading to the decision making to decontaminate hands. Specific factors identified to be influential include professional ...
