Introduction

Pain in children is considered to be an unpleasant feeling which is created by intense stimuli such as alcohol or any other injury. Many studies have been conducted which have stated the definition of pain in context of children. Children define pain as unpleasant emotional experience or feeling which can be explained or referred to as damage. It can be stated that pain is a universal phenomena with various dimensions such as physical, sensory, affective and interpersonal. It has been observed that physiology of pain is quite similar among people and children all across various diversified culture but the experience and meaning can be different.

The paper will critique an article which is qualitative inquiry of Taiwanese children pain experiences.

Discussion

The article is based on qualitative inquiry on the various kinds of pain experiences Taiwanese children face in their lives. Therefore, a study has been conducted in which a sample size of 90 children suffering from acute pain has been taken for the investigation of the study. The primary objective behind the study was to analyze and examine children pain experiences and its affect on their health (Cheng, Foster & Hester, 2003)

Research problem/ purpose

It is quite evident that very few studies have been conducted which have investigated Taiwanese children experiences regarding pain. The main issue identified in the article is that Taiwanese children pain experiences have never been analyzed. The study has stated that pain can be experienced by children at various levels and their intensity of pain can be influenced by their culture and traditions. The issue discussed and analyzed in the article is that culture has a strong impact on pain experiences. Therefore, Taiwanese pain experiences need to be analyzed separately as they cannot be identical to pain experiences of children in United States. The primary purpose and objective of the study is to understand how children in Taiwan explain their pain and experiences. This study will help in investigating how children in hospital describe their pain experiences (Creswell, 2003)

With the help of literature and many previous research studies, the authors have defined and analyzed various concepts. The authors have identified the definition of pain which children have given in the studies.
