“Heparinized solution vs. saline solution in the maintenance of arterial catheters: a double blind randomized clinical trial”

Introduction

The objective of the article was to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the heparinized solution against the saline solution. The article is presented in contrast with the maintenance of the arterial catheters. The purpose of the article was to detect the changes that take place in the aPTT and “platelet count” in the gathered samples from the groups on which the research was conducted. Heparin is mainly used to swill out solutions in efforts to extend the patency of major and essential venous pressure monitoring outlines. This aspect is however used without risks such as sensitivity reactions and heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. The study focuses on critically evaluating the efficiency of heparin on the duration while the arterial catheter patency and such associated elements, which can marginally link up with the arterial catheters (Del Cotillo et. al, 2008). These elements are mainly based upon the major principle of EBP, as in the current scenario evidence-based practice has highly gained significance in the domain of medicine. The research article has presented the components of the research based on these specific elements with the overall findings that were gathered from the participants. The paper includes a structural sequence of the defined guidelines as per the requirements of the paper.

Discussion

Research Problem and Purpose

The research problem was to evaluate and analyze the effectiveness of “heparinized solution vs. saline solution” for maintaining arterial catheters in order to detect the changes that take place in the aPTT. The purpose was to analyze the aspects of this particular area. The purpose also involved to critically evaluate the components that add up to the effectiveness of heparin while the arterial catheter problems which are related to the principles of evidence-based practice. It was to contrast the functionality of the arterial catheters which are maintained with the solutions that include heparin and the ones without it.

The evaluation of the consequence of heparin on the time period of catheter prevention and the process of preventing its problems is associated with the arterial catheters. The research subject is a potential one and has additional room for research; therefore the problem is significantly relevant in the context of nursing (Garland et. al, 2005). The aim of the research was to provide a narrow view, which can be reflected from the research findings. The findings from the perspective of future research have reflected a broader view of the study.

Rationale of the Literature Review

The literature review in the article is limited but contains the logic as per the requirement of the research. The core rationale behind the study is that the patients in the hospitals need a device for the arterial catheter, which needs access for effectively managing the required fluids and drugs in the nutritious elements of the human body (Whitta et. al, 2006).
