Introduction

Mentoring was introduced in the nursing profession in the year 1970's, it is a key to the advancement in nursing. The process of mentoring has reformed by time and polished in literature (Mills J, 2006). A mentoring nurse is a wise trusted teacher or counselor with whom a professional relationship is created for direct transfer of knowledge between an apprentice and a person who is a major in knowledge of his/her field. In pre registration of nursing and midwifery students, mentoring is a compulsory. (Charmaz, 2006).

Since the turnover rate of nurses working in remote and rural area, is an increasing norm. There was a professional research conducted to classify the professional setbacks and individual reasons that are influencing the reasons of resigning of a rural nurse. A survey was carried out, in which the authors collected information from the resigned nurse of a rural area. The feedback received from the survey categorized that the issue was influence of professional and rural area, the benefits of planning strategy of work power that inflicts positive features of remote and rural areas, to recover nurses in non metropolitan nurses (Charmaz, 2006).

Mentoring has lately been proposed as an answer to the dilemma for holding rural nurses in the Australian profession of nursing. The action taken is in the form of workshops related to mentor development; they have changed the way rural nurses build a mentoring relationship.

The nurses who perform their duties outside the metropolitan centers, where access to good services related to healthcare are much reduced are called rural nurses. These rural nurses practice with or without the assistance of medical or professional healthcare support. A nurse can perform the task of a mentor, but most of the nurses enter the field of mentoring unintentionally. Nurses who adopt the position of mentoring accidently are known as accidental mentors. Usually, the accidental mentoring is very common in the rural nurses, mentoring brings two nurses in a supportive relationship. The experienced rural nurses are a product of challenges and crisis; they have worked in a very complicated environment. A new nurse in need of mentoring can be experienced, but since the nurse has no experience of rural nursing the status is of a fresh nurse. These new nurses have to work mostly with supervision of their subordinate.

Rural areas in Australia are advancing by the time, the prime facilities of healthcare provided in approximately every rural area. However, there is still a lapse in the advancement of secondary treatments within the rural districts. The shortage of workforce in the rural area of Australia has prompted an introduction to find the solution of poor recruitments and rates of retention (Mills J, 2006).
