The French Revolution, 1789-1799

This momentous event that created modern France, was inspired by the American Revolution of 1776 and had no equivalent in Russia in 1917. The revolution has really brought freedom? Would it have been avoided? Historians have different opinions and the opinion itself is divided.

The causes of the Revolution come mainly from the inability to modernize the monarchy in the late eighteenth century. Louis XVI and his ministers finally called the Estates General to solve the financial and political crisis at a time when the nation suffers an economic crisis. (Burke, 1997)
