Religious and Cultural Beliefs

Introduction

Since the time of existence of Islam there has been a question on Gender inequality from the non-Muslim religious scholars and it has been ascribed genetically to religion. Whereas, the causes to this are purely non-religious. Islam gives a complete light to gender equality of women and give fundamental teachings to this issue. It is more a political, social, and cultural influenced issue. According to Ayatollah seyyed Mohammed Hossain Tehrani: “The requirement of Nature in terms of equality is that social rights and duties for individuals are in accordance with the rights given to anyone as they are due, as the capacities allow”

It is not right to say that Islam gives superiority to man over women because the virtue of man is his dominant role in responsibilities and maintaining the women to fulfill rights of the women. It is a fact that woman is physically delicate and sensitive unlike man and have less power to tolerate the hardships what man can face. Islam is more based on the family system and here the family is lead with the power of man. That creates a view to others that man is more dominant and enjoys greater opportunities in the society. Whereas, Islam gives a clear definition through numerous verses in Qur'an that man and women are equal in all the values and functions of life.
