Introduction

As one enters in the Chartres Cathedral to get to the apse, they witness three different portals that are three great facades that will see into the nave on the west and the transepts on the north and south ends. The central portal will be larger than the others since it was mainly designed only for special occasions and events. The two smaller portals on each side will allow common access for those who enter the cathedral daily (Jacobus, 1999).
