Evaluative and Reflective Report

Introduction:

The topic chosen for planning assignment was simple and realistic, dealing with one of the most commonly observed problems these days. A number of parents complain that their children do not seem interested in prayers and other religion related stuff, assuming that religion is all about visiting church on Sundays and participating in chores. In order to clarify the concepts and assist parents in making church a likable place, this assignment was designed and implemented. The fundamental question put forward was: How do we make the church the place where children want to come? I was using Kolb's Learning Style in the practical, as it provides an excellent learning cycle and usually produces excellent results.

Discussion:

How the plan went?

The plan went smooth and steady, as we had already observed almost all aspects and had analysed earlier and I sure that there are no loopholes in the plan. The selected group comprised of individuals with excellent communication skills. They were vocal and had good relations amongst one another thus felt easier to describe things and open to the subject at hand.

The main purpose of the study was to get to the depth of the reasons of children's disinterest in church. The findings intended to find a way to make church an interesting place for children, where they visit with their own consent, instead of the parents forcing their children to participate.

Coming to the method adopted, Kolb' learning style states that under ideal circumstances (and by deduction, not always) this process is the representation of a learning cycle or spiral where the learner touches all the four bases of learning: a cycle of experiencing followed by reflecting, thinking, and acting. Immediate or actual experiences lead to observations and reflections (McGrath, 2011, Pp: 152).

The reflections thus obtained are then translated or absorbed into various intangible and theoretical concepts that an individual can experiment with, as I did in this case. The results obtained result in the creation of new experiences and observations. In the said case the learner first analyzed the situation, and various aspects of the same problem were discusses.

Answering the question put forward, most of the parents believed that children these days are more inclined towards technology and academics, thus finding lesser time and dedication towards religion. Sharing their observations, they also mentioned that sue to lack of awareness and little preaching about religion; children of this age are reluctant to adopt religious lifestyle and consider weekly visits to church as more than enough.

Two parents complained that their children were easier to deal with a few years back, but as they are gaining access to more and more 'fun things' in life, bringing them to church is becoming more and more tough and tricky. They are either engaged in academic work, technology related stuff or are out with friends thus finding no time and space for religion. All the parents resolved that if children realize the importance and real value of going to church, they ...
