Reflective Essay

Introduction

In this assignment the focus will be my organization's current conflict resolution and mediation processes. I am required to prepare the topic based upon my current readings and additional research. In the first place I will make a PowerPoint (PP) presentation for the senior management group about the stipulated topic describing the approach I have used to present the contents to my audience. In addition to this I need to write a reflective essay based upon my learning about effectiveness of PP and understanding about the subject of conflict resolution and mediation.

Advantages of Presentation through PP

Before going to the topic of conflict resolution and mediation processes directly, I thought it worthwhile to summarize the benefits of PP which are as under:

It looks more professional way of putting the message across

Presenter can easily look at the PP for any questions of the audience

Good for reference at the end

Audience can register the message and information more easily

Visuals, images and good presentation style easily captures audience attention

By having key points on the PP one could refer and talk about these in his own words, rather than reading directly from a piece of paper

Conflict Resolution

Coming back to the main topic of Conflict Resolution I must admit that after making PP my understanding of the subject has increased manifold. Before I proceed further let us see the definition of Conflict as given on PP (Hocker & Wilmot, 1991) which could be further broken into components for ease of understanding:

Conflict requires at least 2 or more than 2 persons who seem to be dependent on each other.

Both of them tend to move violently with force to express their viewpoint on the subject.

They are unable to get along due to inadequate resources.
