Reflective Coursework on a Home Visit

Introduction

In the profession of nursing, caring is a contact between a patient and a nurse is made. The nurse interferes in the patient's life for the purpose of getting acquainted with the patient like a caring individual, and it is from this epistemology that the science of caring unfolds in the nursing profession. Such caring means a lot to the patient and helps develop a sense of getting well within a patient. Nurses display care towards their patients anticipating that they are contributing to the well being or cure of the patients (Watson, 2002). Commitment and hope are considered to be the main constituents of caring; hope is delineated as something beyond just thinking for the well being, it rather refers to the consciousness of the instances of possibilities.

Caring is considered as a fundamental notion in the delivery of care in hospitals. Nurses deal with a variety of patients, allied to a variety of set ups and backgrounds. Frequently they are startled with the realization of their impending demise in unacquainted surrounds. They are completely dependent on the nurse and the care delivered by them for helping them feel some better. A nurse considers the patient to be a spiritual being. This refers to the nurse extending out to the patient and establishing a stronger association to their spiritual being. The one being cared for and the one delivering care are inter-related. When the nurse delivers care to the patient, the patient experiences a human association at a level much deeper compared to a physical interaction.

A lady has just discharged after a hospital assessment from her ward to her home. She needs full care and assistance in everything. By keeping the case history of lady in mind, a plan of care would be prepared that would include her each and every requirement of medicine, hygiene, and communication. The solutions and practices would be advocated by an OT to make sure the superior cure for her in every attribute of her need. Her care plan will be discussed here (Gibbs, 1988).

Discussion

It is stated in the NMC code 2008 that well-being of a patient is one of the major responsibility of nurses. Patients must be treated individually and their dignity must be respected. They must not be discriminated in any way. They must be treated considerably and kindly. Nurses must act as an advocate for their patients and help them in accessing relevant social and health care, support and information. They must respect the confidentiality of their patients. Their personal information may only be revealed if they are at a risk of any harm (Nursing and Midwifery Council,2008).
