The big traveller author Jan Morris was born James Morris. James Morris differentiated himself in the British infantry, became a thriving and bodily challenging reporter, ascended hills, traversed wastelands, and established a status as a historian of the British empire. He was joyously wed, with some children. To all appearances, James Morris was not the only man, but rather a man's man.
