Current recruitment strategy at St. Vincent's Hospital has an objective to hire those candidates that take the job seriously. The hospital is also trying to curb the problem of stress, conflict and absenteeism among the existing staff through hiring a large number of new staff. In this context the current recruitment strategy at St. Vincent's hospital is not successful and hence evaluated at a below average rank. A total of 11 recruitment resources are used in current situation. Out of 273 applicants, 52 accept the job and only 33 remain on job over one year period. In process of utilizing 11 recruitment resources this figure is very low. Table 2.16 shows the diversity between the ratios of hired consultants to the applied ones. This ratio does not match with the cost associated with the recruitment resource, for example the private employment agency is the costly one providing the hospital few candidates as compare to the cost.

A large number of recruitment resources are currently being utilized by the hospital. Looking at the list of recruitment resources makes it clear that the hospital has chosen every way of hiring candidates. The problems can be solved by paying attention to the reasons behind the job rejections rather than using every available recruitment source.

Answer to 2nd Question

To answer this question we closely analyze the figures of every recruitment resource. Internet application is a costly resource but it provided the largest number of candidates to the hospital in one year. The percentage of candidates hired through this resource is also greater than other recourses.

Walk-ins are less costly than internet applications but the amount by which the cost difference is very less as compare to the difference between the percentages of successful candidates from the two sources.

Employee referrals are the least costly source. The difference between the cost of this source and that of the others is very large while the above-average rating is also higher than walk-ins. News paper ads and journal ads provided satisfactory help in the recruitment process. Costs of these two sources are also reasonable. Candidates through journal ads ranked higher than those from news paper ads.
