The authors describe synthetic biology as an acute genetic engineering and referred it to a promising technology which is largely unregulated and developing swiftly. The authors stated that traditional genetic engineering refers to the exchange of gene of one into another species, while the authors endorse a phenomenon of writing on a computer a complete new genetic code to create a new life or inject it into living organisms. The authors are proponents of synthetic biology because they illustrate its significance at various places; however focuses on safety of synthetic biology (Chin, 2006).

For proving the safety of synthetic biology, the authors urge government to regulate precautionary principle in ensuring environmental and worker protection, such as commercial use of technology. Moreover, the authors also held manufacturer accountable and corporate liable for safety of synthetic biology.

In authors' standpoint, self-regulation is an inadequate means to govern synthetic biology research because it does not allow transparency; monitoring or public involvement, as well as do not facilitates remedy in case of hazards such as economic harms or environmental disruption.

The authors argued that modifying the human genome must be banned and forbidden because it is very risky to swap inherent genes of human, as well as it is also morally not acceptable. I partially agreed with the authors as there is a vast difference between somatic therapy and germ-line therapy, and the intention behind both therapies. In case of germ-line therapy, modifying the human genome must not be prohibited valuable method of harm prevention by means of vaccinations. However, there is still an ethical limit on the human genome modification (Andrianantoandro, Basu, Karig, & Weiss, 2006).
