Introduction

The ability of a person to read and write is known as literacy. Research stated that reading and writing are significant to help function in society, job, and school. The importance of literacy development in early years of children cannot be overstated. Many parents wonder what the ideal age for their children to start to read and write. The truth is that at this point there are varied and conflicting opinions among different schools and methodologies (Hohman, 2005). However on average studies show that it is best for children to read and write in early childhood (3, 4 and 5 years). The success of children in primary school and later in life significantly depends on the ability to read and write in early years (3-5 years). Children aging 3-5 years are known as preschoolers. The preschool is conceived only as that predated the school, which involves the development of specific skills and habits future school learning. In primary school along with communication problems numerous students struggle with literacy skills (www.sde.ct.gov). They repeatedly perform poor in school, face difficulty in expressing and understanding language and have writing and reading problems. Preschool is a very important period for reading and writing beginning from birth until the child enters school. Thus in this paper I am going to assess reading and writing development for preschoolers. This paper will allow the readers to have better understanding of the significance of relationship between literacy and early years of children.
