Introduction

The objective of this research paper is to critically analyze if European Americans are being racially discriminated against in the US. The polarized opinions on the said issue are comprehensively presented in this paper, so that clear demarcation between the perceptions of both White majority and minorities living in the US could be made. The research carried out for collection the information has been based on primary as well secondary methods; therefore, personal interviews, and published data are the main sources of information for this research.

Racism is a kind of human behavior which has been exhibited at various points in history at different parts in the world; however, the more cosmopolitan a region is, the greater is the exhibition of racial behavior. Simply put, racism is an inherent belief that one's own race is superior to other races in the region; this thought is usually coupled with hatred and animosity for other races (Hill, 2011). In a country like America, an influx of immigrants was observed in the 20th century, which has resulted in it being a highly cosmopolitan area; where people from various countries belonging to various ethnicities have been residing for many years. According to US census 2010, 75% of the total pouplaiton are White, 12% are Black, amd 3.6% are Asians (2011). Although people of color in the US are said to have been victimized by racial discrimination; but, the highest incidents of racism have been against African Americans.

However, with the improvement in legal rights and protection laws, the African American population has been observed to have much better access to resources, jobs, and other civil rights in a society. Thus, the degree of racism against African Americans has decreased remarkably during the last couple of decades. This is evident from the high percentage of employment, university graduates, and annual income statistics as mentioned in the US census for 2010. Briefly put, the stats highlight that 18% of African Americans have earned Bachelors' degree, 1.5m have high advanced degrees, annual income median for them is $32,068, and 28.4% are employed at white collar jobs (US Census, 2011).

Many primary respondents for this research praised the way American Society has evolved, putting the racial differences behind them; one of them mentioned that she could not recall seeing interracial couples in her childhood, and if there were any, they were the talk of the town. However, today, there are so many interracial couples that people do not even notice it. This is surely an indication of white Americans putting behind the racial differences and animosity which once nurtured white race superiority in the country.
