The Kposowa Foundation is a not-for-profit firm based in long beach, Califronia. This no-for-profit organization was co-founded by John Woehrle and Sarah Culberson. The main intention of Kposowa Foundation is to collect and raise resources to reconstruct the boarding school in the community, furnish clean and pure drinking water for the people, provide opportunities for the local people to improve their lives, and enhance the overall quality of life for the people.
History
The Bumpe High School (BHS) was stripped and burned down by rebels in civil war in Sierra Leone, which almost lasted for a whole decade, from the period of 1991 to 2002. During that war, a number of buildings and furnishings were either stolen or destroyed. The Bumpe High School used to be a very well knwoen boarding school and had over six hundred registration students from a number of different places of the world, like Nigeria. The long Civil war in Sierra lone has caused serious and grotesque violations of human rights in the country.
Previous projects of Kposowa Foundation
The first objective of the Kposowa Foundation is to reconstruct Bumpe High School and repair the damage that has been done to the school because of the intense war. The second objective of the Kposowa Foundation is to corroborate the children, who were getting their education from that school.
The completed projects
They had built around twelve classrooms to assist the starting their functioning once again.
Owing to the substantial assistance from The Rotary Foundation, the Kposowa Foundation had utilized around fifty thousand dollars to build some new wells, to provide access to clean and safe drinking water to the residents.
The dormitories for boys and girls were also constructed, so that children, who used to live a long away, would not have to walk a long way to come to school every day. This betterment had also assisted in making sure that the children could attend school regularly.
Present projects
Since the education in public school is not free of cost in Sierra Leone, the Kposowa Foundation trying to develop a fund for scholarship for the children, who cannot afford to acquire such expensive education.
The Kposowa Foundation has started collecting provisions for the Home Economics Building like pots, sewing machines, utensils, pans, freezers, gas cookers, etc.
Future projects
Among the number of things that need development in Sierra Lone, agriculture is another area that needs many efforts to bring it to a sufficient level in the city of Bumpe. The Kposowa is trying to boost people to grow their own food for their consumption, possibly, by utilizing Bumpe High School to instruct the kid's different techniques that is used in agricultural.
There is a serious problem of electricity in Bumpe High School. The children have to study in sunlight and candle light. The Kposowa Foundation is trying to start a project of supplying energy through the sunlight in the Bumpe High School.
