Quality Management in Immunology Laboratory

Quality management has been defined as a technique which is used to assure that all characteristics concerning the design, development and implementation of product or service are handled in an effective and efficient manner. The role of quality management is very important. The reason for this is that it guarantees that certain standard are congregate during high volume production. Healthcare quality management has achieved considerable attention since the number of injuries and deaths was increased due to the medical error.

In the laboratory of immunology research fosters the basic knowledge of oral diseases through clinical techniques and molecular biology. The research areas that comprise the main focus of the laboratory are: Caries and Dental Fluorosis, Teratology (Fetal Alcohol-Syndrome) and oral cancer. Immunological methods are diagnostic methods based on the specific interaction of antigens and antibodies. Widely used for diagnosis of infectious and parasitic diseases, blood group, tissue and tumor antigens, species of protein recognition allergies and autoimmune diseases, pregnancy, and hormonal disorders. These include serological testing, or serological tests, which include the usual reaction of the direct impact of antigens and serum antibodies in the laboratory (Lefkovits, 1997).

Gradually, immunology has become a science individually and as all modern sciences, took concepts from other sciences and chemical which has also enriched, including microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, medicine, pathology and molecular biology, among others. From a somewhat simplistic, we can speak of subdivisions of immunology, as immunity, serology, immunochemistry and immunobiology. During the early years of this science, immunology and immunity were virtually synonymous and almost exclusively focused on the prevention of infectious diseases through vaccination, and although currently earmarked much of the research efforts to improve vaccines and immunization techniques, differences between the two are tangible.

Immunology laboratories have experienced a dramatic change in health care financing, delivery and consumerism. This dramatic change came very late to the healthcare industry along with the quality management. This was due to the reluctant look of the industry to implement the innovative and performance breakthroughs. Hence, after the many cases of death and injuries, healthcare industry laboratories has focused on the quality as termed quality control and quality assurance along with focusing on the usefulness of the quality management strategy, performance improvement and Information systems.

Transplant immunology has taken great importance in recent years in immunology laboratories. The techniques are used in the diagnostic immunology laboratory at high speeds, each day more molecular and genetic techniques that are available and that is why, the professional and technical personnel must be constantly updated, but the addition of some of these new techniques is costly, not only from the point of view of acquisition of reagents, but also in terms of infrastructure. But we must recognize that our country has the team capable of working on any of these modern techniques. Health authorities should promote the routine use of these techniques not only for diagnosis, but also through promoting the research for the development of different ...
