Introduction

Quality control and assurance is a term used to describe mechanisms and procedures planned as a part of experimental protocols that are designed to reduce the possibility of error, particularly human error. Integral parts of quality control include the design of procedures in such a way as to minimize the possibility of human error, the collection of data not only on the results of the experiments, but also on the daily activities, personnel involved, etc., and the proper training of all laboratory and animal room personnel. From its definition, the word "ensure" implies something secure, ensure compliance with an obligation to convey trust someone, say, promise, assurance check something accordingly, through insurance, the organization tries convey confidence, affirms its commitment to quality in order to provide the necessary support to its products and / or services.

Quality Control and Assurance

The role of a quality control department within the manufacturing industry is to ensure that all products made adhere to not only the company's strict rules regulations but also international standards and regulations for safety. In an individual manufacturing operation the quality control department is responsible for carrying out all necessary quality checks for that specific stage of the operation and providing feedback and storable notes / sign off's for future reference. Effective quality control can reduce the cost of a manufactured product by highlighting problems or floors at earlier stages of production so as not carry a floored piece through the whole manufacturing process and only identify these issues after the entire work process has been carried out on it (Daniel, Reitsperger, 1994, 275-294).

It is extremely important that quality control documentation is maintained, accurate and accessible as this is the only documentation a factory has to fall back on if customer complaints arise or even worse they come under investigation for work they have carried out. From the videos it would appear that BMW is quite happy with majority of its quality documentation being kept in paper form and stored in the factory where that individual part has been made. This process of storage is fine but allows for loss of paper work and dips min accuracy down to the individual carrying out the checks, it also makes accessing certain documents a lengthier process as they need to trace it back to the original source (Dean, Bowen, 19940, 392-418).
