QUALITY CONTROL

Profit through Skill (Quality Control)

Profit through Skill (Quality Control)

Explain what 'quality' means and its impact on construction organizational performance. Discuss critically the concepts of inspection, quality control, quality assurance and total quality management and analyze their effectiveness on the construction project success.

The main task of the quality of a construction company is to create conditions that would allow it to produce goods (service), and the alleged meeting specified requirements (to achieve the desired quality) and be able to demonstrate this ability of customers and investors. In the process of the establishment and operation of these conditions in the organization, individual processes are not the one that are only optimized, but all the activities that lead to lower costs and increase the profitability of the organization are optimized all together (Kenneth, 2005, p. 41). The general sequence of works on the development, implementation and certification of quality systems in construction companies are as follows:

The decision on the implementation of the quality system.

Evaluation of an existing quality system.

Training.

Development of quality system documentation.

Implementation of the quality system.

Quality system certification (Kenneth, 2005, p. 41).

The decision on the implementation and evaluation of an existing quality system

When people talk about the development and implementation of quality system based on the standards of ISO 9000, a mistaken idea is formed that you will create something new and previously unknown. In fact, in every construction company, of course, there is a system of quality management of construction products (Anand, Peter, et al, 2010, p. 303-315). Therefore, we can only speak of the need to bring the system in line with the requirements of ISO 9000. It is important to note that the definition of scope of work and the success of the implementation of the quality system as a whole is largely dependent on the goals pursued by the construction company, and its head (Charles, John, 2009, p. 5-7).

Aims of implementation of the quality system

The quality system should be implemented in order to achieve long-term goals related to its potential, and not for a single construction company profits when the specific order. Regardless of whether the quality system is implemented at the request of a customer or for any other reason, the management of a construction company should be aware that the introduction of this system is only the first step in the direction of its use, where it will be profitable. That is, the cost of implementing a quality system - it is not losses, and investment, and like any investment, they need to make profit (Charles, John, 2009, p. 5-7).

Profit from the introduction of the quality system will manifest itself through:

Shortening work (administrative and visualization processes, eliminating the "blank" work, the reduction of claims).

Cost reduction (rationalization management of the construction process, reducing the time, the elimination of "idle" work, and the reduction of claims).

Increased volume of work (reducing the time, cost reduction).

Expanding the range of work done (reducing the time, large volumes of work).

Increase the stability of the construction company in the market (fast adaptation ...
