Research Question

The research questions involve inspecting the ways teacher race influences their professional work. Racial issues has been very important in the context of schooling and metered as one of the critical issue of the time. It has been observed that students are more comfortable discussing the issue of racism with their Black teacher as compared to the white teacher. This underlying study is also aimed to examine the relationship of student produced culture to the school improvement endeavors in progress.

Literature Review

In the literature review, the author has drawn attention to the mounting level of demographic divide in the American society. White teachers who are in majority are most probably flexible enough to discuss their racial perceptions. Moreover, studies reveal no positive results regarding the impact of multicultural education and consciousness-raising. (McIntyre 1997; Cochran-Smith 2004; Solomon et al. 2005; Ryan 2003). At the same time, studies (Gordon 2000; Foster 1997; Osler 1997) revealed a strong sense of solidarity among Black teachers for their students. The studies of Tatum (1999) and Titone (1998) demonstrated the role of teacher's race in association with their profession with minority students propose a noteworthy departure.

Methodology

The research was based on drawing information essentially from interviews with seventeen educators, nine Black, and eight White. Information was also gathered through observations of staff meetings and classes at a separated urban high school. 42 students were also interviewed and a typical interview was conducted for 30-90 minutes which was also tape-recorded. Students were inquireed about how they utilized the school, how they found their teachers, and on what they believed the idea of education was.
