Introduction

There are many theories in the study of psychology which have been evolved to cater the mental disabilities of human mind. There are some theories which in the past, originated to respond mental illness, imposing positive and brighter side on human mind. In this regard several theories have been introduced in the study of psychology. There are three theories of psychotherapy which are presented in this paper to compare and contrast their similarities and differences. The theories include, Adlerian therapy, Cognitive therapy. And Solution-focused brief theory.

Adlerian Theory

Adlerian theory was proposed by Alfred Alder born to the Jewish family in 1870. The theorist had a very close relationship with his mother until the birth of his younger brother. In his age of adolescence and since after he was supported by his father.

The work of Alfred Adler has created mark in the history of psychology as he is the co-founder of the psychoanalytic movement and founder of the school of individual psychology. He was the first person who attempts to study psychology from individual personality perspective and break away from psychoanalysis to form an independent school of psychotherapy and personality theory (Richard, 2012).

Key concept

Adlerian theory focus on teaching, guiding, and encouraging the client in order to help themselves in identifying their problems and correct the basis of their personal logic. The theory suggests maintaining a collaborative behavior between client and therapist (Corey, 2005).

Theory's view of Human Nature

The basic theme of Adler's cohesive multifaceted of philosophy, theory, and practice was a strongly enthusiastic, humanistic view of life. He offered a value-oriented psychology that envisioned human beings as capable of profound cooperation in living together and striving for self-improvement, self-fulfillment, and contribution to the common welfare (Bannink, 2007).

Feeling of Community

Adler theory has an optimistic approach for living beings that have been blessed with numerous opportunities of life. Adlerian focuses on the understanding of human behavior in social context. The theme of his theory revolves around the interdependence of individuals with that of their society. He was the early proponents and supporter of feminist movement, where he poses strong emphasis on the provision of equal opportunities to both men and women. (Terry, Eric, Jong, Korman, Gingerich, Franklin, n.d).

The theory is based on multi-level concept. The idea of Adler's theory is based on the connectedness of self and society. His theory was based on the assumption that the connectedness positively contributes in the construction of society as that of individual. Furthermore he viewed that connectedness among people is not only essential for societies, it has dominating role in the development of personality. It is a fact that infant feel instant connections with their parents because in the absence of such connection they are likely to die. Alfred refer his system as “individual psychology” which not poses emphasis on social sides, neither it's a psychology of an individual.
