Define psychology and the various ways in which psychological theory is applied in daily life.

What is psychology? Etymologically it means the study of the mind or soul. Until the nineteenth century it was considered a branch of philosophy. Study was concerned with the soul. This theory took the form of dualism and spiritualism.  This concept of immaterial mind inhabiting a material body away the hope of understanding the man, he was a vicious circle, which was limited to explaining the behavior of the Acts of God, blaming a "man within the man." This view thing was simply a part of pre-scientific conception of the universe (Sachs & James, 2005).

There are many ways in which psychological ways are applied in human everyday life. Psychology is not only limited to theorist, academics and therapists. These are the following ways in which it can be applied to the everyday life.

To get motivated.

For improvement in leadership skills.

To become a good communicator.

Improving memory.

To make right decisions, etc.

Articulate how research is utilized to study and evaluate human behavior and demonstrate its application within the workplace.

There are many researches done in the field of psychology in order to evaluate the human behavior and it is utilized to demonstrate applications within the workplace. There are many therapies which are researched and are utilized to understand the human psychology of the people working in the workplace. The contribution of humanistic psychology has been great during the revolutionary years of 1960s and 1970s (O'brien, 2009).

One major contribution of humanistic psychology is Rogers' conflict resolution approach. He used a very emotional, honest conflict resolution approach. The intensity of the situation does not matter; the conflicts should be resolved with the help of casual interaction in private or confidential meetings.
