The integration of psychology and theology may be observed as the attempt to bring our reliance admission to bear on our chosen line of work. What does theology have to say to psychology? What difference does faith in God make in the way a psychotherapist assists a troubled person or family? In what way is Christ the respond to human need? How can the life of the church be a context for healing? What is the role of the Holy Spirit in the healing process?

Most of the efforts for integration are based on one necessary faith that all truth is God's truth, wherever it is found, which proposal is frequently referred to as "the unity of truth. In other words, Christianity affirms that God is the maker of all things and that this sets up an essential unity of all truth, whether found in scriptural revelation or scientific testing. Both the Bible and psychology have a great pact of subject matter in common. Both study the thoughts and actions of the human race. If God is the author of all the truth, we need not be frightened to inspect what might appear to be competing truth claims for the reason that we are not dealing with ultimately different sources of truth. Psychology is raising queries and providing data that bear on our theological understanding of the human being, and theology expresses exquisitely revealed truths that speak to psychology's developing outlook of humanity. Some Christians presume that there are inherent conflicts between psychology and Christianity, while many non-Christian psychologists believed the dominance of the scientific method and the fear of contaminating their endeavors with the "prejudice" of religion.

Psychologists have reflected cautiously on the nature of human experience, the nature of family disagreement, the consequences of violence, depression, anger, stern mental illness, burnout and a range of other issues.

Some people have a terror or disbelieve of psychology. We call psychologists and psychiatrists 'shrinks' and a disgrace is still, in some quarters, linked with seeking counseling from them.

Psychology, the biblical word for the soul, is cited more than 50 times in the New Testament. Psychology is fundamentally the learning of behavior of the soul, our inner being. 'Theology' is the study of God.

Theology exclusive of psychology can become theoretical and tentative. Psychology without theology can disintegrate into worship of the 'golden self'.

The Bible is about both. It tells us who God is, how humans become dysfunctional and how they can become whole. Even though the Bible is not a psychological text-book, it has a lot to say concerning the 'counsel' God offers us. Jesus assured the Holy Spirit to his followers, to come at the side of us, bring us truth about ourselves, our troubles, and how God helps us: that's the role of any highly regarded Christian counselor.
