Abstract

This paper is aimed to present a psychoanalytic view of the life span of Aileen Wuornos. It discusses the early history of Aileen's life, which is filled with disturbing occurrences. It presents that Aileen had suffered from domestic instability, which initiated her antisocial behavior on the basis of distrust and absence of love. It also presents her exposure to sexual assault and exploitation in early years, which developed her personality in an unusual and antisocial manner. Her sexual sufferings were the major cause for her profession of prostitution, through which she murdered seven men. The grave impact of her childhood are highly prominent in her behaviors and actions, which signifies that her developed personality and desires forced her to commit such intense crimes.

Introduction

Aileen Wuornos was not the first female serial killer, but she is one of the most prominent female serial killers in the history United States. All of the associations of Wuornos, and charges on her are established facts. Apparently, she was a prostitute, and a brutal murderer who killed multiple men. She was also involved in homosexual activities, and she was suffering from several severe psychological problems. Her antisocial behavior and hatred for mankind signify her mental instability, which was a threat to the society (Arrigo & Griffin, 2004). However, her actions are not the complete depictions of her will; instead her sufferings in life that began from her early childhood were also a significant cause for her grave actions. In this regards, this paper will present a psychoanalytic analysis of the lifespan of Aileen Wuornos, and it will also describe associations of her past with her actions.

The Case of Aileen Wuornos

Aileen Wuornos was first convicted in 1992 on the charge of a murder out of her seven murders throughout her life. However, Aileen Wuornos claimed that all of her victims were died during her thrive for self defense. She claimed that each of the seven victims tried to rape her, and in reaction she tried to defend herself, which caused their deaths. Aileen was convicted and sentenced numerous times in different years; however, she was sentenced to death for the charges of murdering six men, and she was executed in 2002 (Howard, 2004).
