Introduction

Psoriasis is considered as a common skin condition which mainly causes rapid skin growth or cell reproduction. This will later result in red, dry patches of thickened skin. However, the dry flakes and skin scales are thought to result from the rapid buildup of skin cells. People who are diagnosed with Psoriasis tend to affect their skin of the elbows, knees, and scalp.

Discussion

Psoriasis is seen worldwide in all races and both gender. It has a strong genetic component but environmental factors such as infections can play vital role in the presentation of disease. Although the skin condition can be seen in a people of any age, but psoriasis is first diagnosed during their early adult years. But, some people with mild psoriasis such as small, faint dry skin patches may not even suspect that they have a medical skin condition. On the other hand, others have severe psoriasis where virtually their entire body is covered with thick red and scaly skin. If we analyze through a sociological perspective, it causes embarrassment to patients, job stress, emotional distress, and personal issues.

If looking into sociological perspective, psoriasis can have a negative impact on the physical emotion, and psychosocial well-being on affected patients. "Psoriasis affects about 0.1% to 3% of the world's population with men and women being equally affected. The prevalence of psoriasis is greater in northern, colder climates. In the US alone, prevalence of psoriasis is 1% to 2 % with a yearly incidence of 250,000 new cases" (Linden, 595). Psoriasis tends to get worsen during periods of stress during adverse environmental conditions of cold weather and low humidity, with the accompaniment of certain drugs and during the causes of certain infections.
