Prose Dinner

Introduction

The following play is written assuming that the two well known authors Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway combine for a dinner. Their conversation would be quite interesting as both of these authors believe in different themes for their writings; Mark Twain is known for his humor, while Ernest Hemingway has made all his reputations for his serious writings. It is to be noted that the dialogue is based on assumption, that they met, which was not the actual case as both writers belonged to different periods.

Mark: “It's really a good opportunity to have a dinner with you, so that we can share some of our ideas”.

Ernest: “Yes! I was willing to see you since a long time. This dinner will help me in finding out that why do you always portray everything as humorous? What I really mean is, the reality of life is not always humorous you see”.

Mark: “Well! You are right up to some extent. I believe that the readers should not be frustrated more by reading my novels and other literature. Reading serves as best time pass and hobby for most of the readers, so it's a better idea to portray things in a light and humorous manner.”

Ernest: “As far as the reality of readings is concerned, I find your writing approach similar to me in many of your stories. For example, you also narrate personal experience as I do (Perez, 2012). The differences between our writings include different choices of subject and writing style.”

Mark: “I agree! Both of us try to write as honestly as we can. The difference between us will always remain as I am more a humorist, and you are more a journalistic style realist. It is true that both of us gathered information from the personal experiences of people, but there is a difference that I started with narrating the personal experiences of friends or relatives, while you most of the times narrated the experiences of the people related to the World wars (Cooper, 2005).”

Ernest: “That's true. Obviously, we wrote about the persons to whom we were linked. I was more interested to assist the injured people during the wars; this was the reason due to which I was there as a member of Red Cross during World War I; this also provided me with considerable information for my books.

Mark: “Probably this is one of the main reasons why you ...
