Proposed Community Mentorship Program at the Buddhist Temple

Introduction

Mentorship has been traditionally associated with achieving growth in the organization. The junior professionals that enter any organization are mostly provided a comprehensive training. This training is not enough, while the junior executives are also required to enter into a professional mentoring relationship with any superior readily available to them. Mostly, this mentoring relationship is informal and voluntary and the junior official himself or herself initiates the relationship with any potential and potent mentor (Boags, 2008). The organization does not mandate all the new entrants to engage in a mentor relationship; however, they may suggest the junior professionals to establish such a relationship.

The community center is located in the Southwest of the city of Houston. This community center is a Buddhist community center as well as a Buddhist temple. It is known as the Vietnam Buddhist Center. It is principally managed by the Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. He is also a teacher, writer and a vocal opponent of war. He also vehemently opposed the Vietnam War which was supported by the United States. This Buddhist community center is the central place for the convergence of all American or other Vietnamese Buddhists residing in the Houston area or in the greater US. The center also provides multiple gathering and community events such as the Quan Am Festival and recent Autumn Festival Night for the youth. The audience and membership of the center comprises all Buddhists living in the area as well as the Buddhist youth (both under and over the age of 18) (VBC, 2012).
